The Arthritis Foundation 2010 Tribute to Excellence

The Arthritis Foundation is pleased to announce 2010 Tribute to Excellence honorees. Douglas Browne, CEO of the Peabody Hotel and S. Terry Canale, MD, will be honored at this year’s dinner to be held at the Peabody Hotel Saturday, April 24.

Both men represent excellence in our community, and in their commitment to the Arthritis Foundation.. “Doug has made the Peabody THE Memphis destination for visitors to our city, and his leadership ensures that every guest at the hotel has an exceptional experience,” stated Karen Watson, Branch Director. “We are fortunate to have him here in our city.” Browne has served the Arthritis Foundation for more than a decade.

Canale has represented excellence in orthopaedics, throughout the mid-south and worldwide. As a past president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and as Chair of the UT-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Canale has established Memphis as a worldwide leader in the field of orthopaedics.

“Dr. Canale has been a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon allowing him to touch the lives of thousands of mid-south children affected with orthopaedic diseases and injuries,” said Watson. He has served on the Board of the Arthritis Foundation, and is the Chair-Emeritus of the Annual Arthritis Walk. “Men of this caliber are few and far between, and we are pleased to honor them at our Tribute Dinner this year.”

This year’s Tribute to Excellence Gala will transport guests to Casablanca, and will celebrate the ongoing cooperation between community leaders and the Foundation. The Arthritis Foundation’s mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. Arthritis affects 46 million Americans, including 300,000 children, and it is among America’s leading causes of disability. In the twenty-one counties served by the West Tennessee Area Office, more than 520,000 Tennesseans are affected by arthritis. Arthritis takes a tremendous toll on working people and on the national economy. The Foundation is proactive in education, advocacy and disease management programs, and it is the largest non-governmental source of funding for arthritis research in the country.
