MEMPHIS NAVY LEAGUE HOSTS “WINE UNDER WINGS”

Memphis, TN - The Memphis Council of the Navy League of the United States is hosting their annual wine tasting on Thursday 8 October 2009. The event will take place at Wilson Air Center located at 2930 Winchester Road, near the Memphis International Airport. The theme of this year’s event, “Spirit of the Sea - Wine under Wings,” supports the “Big Band” era. Music will be provided by the Memphis Knights band, an 18-piece local swing band. The event begins at 7pm and will include a silent auction, as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres and dancing.
Participating in the event will be the Naval Support Activity Mid-South, US Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi, US Marine Corps Reserve Memphis, the BB-43 Division of the Sea Cadet corps, and Navy and Marine Corps Midshipmen from the University of Memphis and Ole Miss ROTC units. Additionally, several wives of crew members of the fleet attack submarine, USS Memphis (SSN 691) will be attending as special guests. A static display of numerous aircraft is also being planned. In addition, any adult ticketholder may bring supervised minors to view the aircraft and talk to aircrew from 3:30-5:30 pm, prior to the main event.
The Memphis Council of the Navy League of the United States is part of a network of more than 260 councils throughout the U. S. and around the world. Councils offer members the opportunity to become personally involved with the Navy League and to support the sea services in their local communities.
