Founded in 2003 as a grassroots effort by classmates from Christian Brothers High School, the Blue Streak Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)3 dedicated to providing financial assistance to qualifying children who attend a Jubilee School. To date, Blue Streak has given more than $500,000 in scholarship money to deserving children.
The mission of the Jubilee Schools is to create a nurturing environment where children of all denominations can learn and grow in a safe place with food and clean uniforms. The eight Jubilee Schools–all in underserved areas of the Memphis community–reopened beginning in 1999 to commemorate the “Jubilee Year” in 2000. Starting with only 26 students in 1999, there are more than 1400 enrolled in the Jubilee Schools today. More than 87 percent of Jubilee students and their families are at or below the federal poverty level and 95 percent receive tuition assistance.
