Memphis Symphony Orchestra - A New Season-A New Beginning

The Symphony League is having a party on Saturday, September 25 from 7pm to midnight at One Commerce Square. The party is entitled "A New Season-A New Beginning" and is in honor of the new symphony music director, Mei-Ann Chen, who will present a "mini" concert with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra that evening. Cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, music, dancing and a silent auction will also be available that evening. Items featured in the auction will appear online at www.memphissymphony.org/symphonyleague .

The party is hosted by the Memphis Symphony League, Honorary Chairpersons Dan and Chloee Poag. Black tie optional, $200 per person or sponsors for $2,500. Cooper Young Festival - Art Invitational/Kickoff Party
Please join us for the annual Art Invitational and Festival Kickoff party hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association. This year, the event will be held Thursday, September 16 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the David Perry Smith Gallery located at 703 New York Street. This event provides area artists with the opportunity to display and sell their works in a gallery setting. The Invitational will feature 15 artists who live and/or work in the Cooper Young area.

David Perry Smith will be the curator of the show. David has a Masters of Art in History of Art from the Ohio State University and has been in the gallery world since graduate school in 1987. There will be a variety of works including sculptures, paintings, photography, glass, craft art and wood pieces. The works displayed will be available for purchase (cash or check only to the individual artist) so if you have been waiting to start that collection now is the time to begin. Some of the artists that will be on-hand to discuss their work are Jeanne Seagle, John McIntre, Elizabeth Alley, Yvonne Bobo, Darla Linerode-Henson, Jeanne Reynolds, Sue Strydom, Mary Long-Postal, Lizi Beard, Janice Raiteri, Tylur French and Jonathan Postal. The original poster art by local artist, Carol Robison, will also be on display and for sale in a silent auction.

There will be complimentary wine/beer bars and live music by Van Duren. Van has been in the music industry since 1975 and has just cut his latest CD titled, Resonance Road. The event is free and open to the public, so mark your calendars for September 16. Baptist Foundation to host charity art auction

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 23, 2010 – The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation will host its annual Art of Caring benefit to support the Baptist Trinity Hospice House and the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at a new venue, The Clark Opera Memphis Center, located at 6745 Wolf River Parkway .

The reception and silent art auction, hosted by David Perry Smith Gallery and curated by Julie Spear, will feature original work specially created for this year’s event. The event will highlight “Memphis Masters” artist Dan Oppenheimer, as well as other local artists.

For the second year, Baptist is partnering with the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art to co-promote Art of Caring and the Brooks fundraising event “Avant-Garde Party 2010.” Avant-Garde Party takes place on Saturday, Aug. 21, and those who attend will receive complimentary tickets to Art of Caring.

Proceeds from Art of Caring support the construction and upkeep of the Baptist Trinity Hospice House, a 24-bed residential hospice scheduled to open this fall on the campus of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville. The Hospice House will be the first of its kind in the area.

Proceeds will also benefit the Baptist Trinity Center for Good Grief, which will move from its current location to the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief, a new facility that will be built adjacent to the hospice house. All services now available at the Baptist Trinity Center for Good Grief will move to the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief. The center provides comprehensive and free bereavement services to families in the Mid-South area and grief camp programs for children, teens and adults.

The event is open to the community, and tickets are $20 per person.
